AVON LAKE, Ohio (WOIO) - A demolition in December had some unintended consequences but things are now business as usual.

“I can’t even find words to express my gratitude right now and I’m still looking for ways,” said Melissa Clifford, owner of Element LABS.

The handmade soaps and body products shop was hit with what Clifford says she was told was an “air-burst” in December during the demolition of a power plant in Avon Lake.

“We were open limited hours, it was so cold, we had limited product on the shelf because it messes with the shelf life,” said Clifford.

When the front of her shop was pushed in, the group redeveloping the property immediately committed to paying for the restoration, cleaning, and any damaged property.

“They regularly check in on us, call us, email us,” said Clifford. “They were in here the other day asking how they can move things along quicker.”

But many others stepped up as well to help the local shop weather the damage.

Clifford says online orders boomed, and people were stopping by constantly to check in on her and show support.

“We want to say thank you for supporting us through a difficult time, and we also really want that opportunity to reintroduce ourselves and give a better first impression now that we’re whole,” said Clifford.

She says that in the second week of March (a date to be announced later), there will be a grand reopening to welcome people to the newly fixed business and thank the people who stood by Element Labs the last few months.
