Breaking News: Element LABS Damaged During Avon Lake Power Plant Implosion

During the final implosion of the Avon Lake Power Plant early Thursday morning, Element LABS, a small business specializing in artisan bath and body products, sustained significant damage to its storefront. The incident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m., caused the shop’s windows to shatter and roof tiles to dislodge due to the force of the implosion.

Owner Melissa Clifford was alerted to the damage shortly after the event. “Honestly, I didn’t know what to expect when I got the call,” Clifford said. “But I’m grateful for the quick response from the city and the support from everyone involved.”

Crews from Avon Lake Environmental Redevelopment Group (ALERG) and Platinum Restoration arrived within hours to secure the building, while city officials, including Mayor Mark Spaetzel, assured Clifford that all damages would be covered.

The community has rallied around Element LABS, visiting the store and offering words of encouragement during a critical holiday sales period. Despite the setback, Clifford remains focused on fulfilling orders and looks forward to reopening in early 2025 after repairs are completed.

Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
